Over Fishing!!

I came across an article about overfishing while I was surfing the web today. Overfishing could deplete the ocean and make ocean life extinct by 2050. So in another 39 years we would be looking at empty and dead ocean water spread across 2/3rds of the this planet. Wow! We have fished so much in the ocean that we are at the brink of destroying the single most powerful source of energy.

I had never thought that humans could destroy the ocean or any part of it. I thought that it was infinite, in destructive and impermeable. And I am sure so must have you. In fact some of you might think right now, that this is all crap. And I am some random loony girl wasting your time and giving you false information. I wish I was, but it is the bitter truth we face today.

We know life originated from the ocean. But do we know what would be the consequences of such a depletion? Can we anticipate what will happen if every live form in the ocean was dead? No plankton, no fish, no coral reefs. Just dead ocean.

Don't you think the ocean will reciprocate? Will turn back on us for destroying it?

When I was small, my grandpa used to tell me about the ocean. About its harshness and roughness. He told me that the ocean doesn't like it when you challenge it. When you mock it s power and try to tame it. It will reciprocate and destroy you. I know it sounds stupid, but I do believe in the destructive power of the ocean. And am sure so do you. Have you not seen what Tsunami did to us? I think it has started back lashing. And if don't take measures to save the ocean, we might face unknown but very harmful repurcurssions.

Did you what can I do? I am just some XYZ living in PQR? What can I do that will make any difference??
For one thing only we can save our oceans. There is a lot we can do, only if we try. Be informed and make wise choices. I am sure a lot of us eat sea fish. So read up the stuff on what you can do here. And if you don't want to read it up at least look at this list of fish safe to consume without impacting the ocean.

So go ahead and make your choice. Go ahead and make the right choice. And we might still stand a chance of saving the ocean and in turn ourselves.

Still Some Good Left !!

A stranger helps rescue a baby girl from drowning and walks away. An article today described how an unknown french guy, helped rescue a small girl who fell into the river in new york. He walked away, not expecting anything, not media attention, or a thanks from the family or not even a small photograph to be put up in news paper.

In today's world of man eat man, it feels like a miracle when you encounter such people. Makes you wonder if you ever did anything even close to it. Even wonder if there is still some good left in the world.

We always try to justify every small thing we do everyday. Justify to ourselves, to the world, to the nature, to our parents, to our family, to our friends. To everyone and everything......for each and everything we ever did, do or going to do. We want reason to do everything. Everything has become more of a business. Education, Medical attention and even help. In all the chaos of technological developments and scientific research we have forgotten the basic things which once were considered good manners. Like helping others, giving your seat to an old lady, or even just smiling on a passerby. We have become more and more self centered and are teaching our children to be one.

I mean there was once a time when you taught your child to be gentle and grateful. Now we tech then to push others and move forward all on the name of survival, competition and success. Our society has lost the social component. Well at least most of it. Has become so much self centered. We fight to preserve lots of animals on the brink of extinction. But our own humanity is on the brink of extinction and we aren't even aware of it.

But these small incidents remind us, that we still have some humanity left. And we must preserve it before it becomes extinct forever.

Cheers to Earth Day !!

Of the all the days that we celebrate, I think one of the most important is earth day. An attempt to save this planet for our future generations. So go ahead and do your part. However small it maybe, if everyone did something it might actually help our planet. Make a few resolutions today and try to keep them for the rest of your life.

http://www.huliq.com/9501/92877/earth-day-activities-2010-5-things-you-can-do-home
The article above will show some of the ways we can start contributing. Which are all very much doable, and do not need a bit of effort on our part. Just a little consciousness. Switching off lights when not using them and taking shorter showers are things that we can do. And honestly I think we should do.

But the first thing is to loose the "what difference does it make if I do it" attitude. As they say every single drop makes the ocean, every single effort does make a big difference. I think this earth day we should all start taking "I can make a difference" attitude towards our planet. Just that will make all the difference in the world. Just that will be a very big "Earth day activity" in itself.

So if you are thinking what you can do to make this world a better place for yourself and the generations to come, what you can do this earth day or what you can do to celebrate earth day; then start by changing your attitude.

Marriage: Is it just love or do you need more ?

"A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person."

Through the years and centuries of human existence, marriage and love are one of those few things which have not changed. Well not much. People have been marrying for centuries for various reasons, be it to carry forward their family to the next generation, or to satisfy their love interest, or to honor their elders or simply because they were meant to. Whatever may be the reason marriage and love has got us this far, has got humanity this far.

One of the big debates about marriage; is it just love or do you need more for a successful marriage. There are lots of definitions for marriage, some say its a lifetime commitment, while some say its a life long friendship, and some say its pure love. But how far can love take you. Can you keep loving a person without reason, without any expectations. When you get married to a person you expect something out of him/her. Yes, it is love, but it is not just love, it is much more.

Can you love a person who screams at you, who gets angry with you, who complains about you? Yes you can. You can love a person, if you understand the person and the reason for his/her actions. When you try to understand your better half, just as much as you understand yourself, you can love him/her no matter what. It all depends on how far do you want to go for that person.

I think love and a lot of understanding is what makes up a good marriage. Marriage is like a recipe; It needs a blend of a lot of ingredients, and the right ingredients will make up the most delicious dish. But to each his own.

Are We Not In the Warzone?

Dying people, killing soldiers, terrified residents and crying family members. War brings so much more than just death. The so called "Pandora's Box" does seem to open wide in the war-zone. Every city, state, country, continent has at some point seen the contents of this box, and for some it never seems to close.

Millions of "normal" people, people just like us, go to war, fight for a cause someone else believes in and thousands of them never come back. They die in the battle field, and what they get in return is a medal and a piece of cloth wrapped around their dead body, leaving grief and sorrow for their families and lots of time to dwell upon it.

At the end of all this, we are fighting for land, resources, religion but almost all the time for "Money" and "Power"-the key players, the key driving force for everything from war to peace. We all believe what we are fighting for is right. We believe strongly in our causes. And we believe that it is worth fighting for. We believe. But we don't pay for what we believe in, someone else does.

And yet when it comes to terrorism we don't have a choice. Somehow the phrase "we always have a choice" does not seem to work. We don't have a choice, but to defend ourselves. Fighting the war against terrorism is like fighting cancer. We almost destroy our body to get rid of the disease. That's what we do to our people when we go for war.

So the question remains, are we in the war zone?
Are we affected by people dying around us?
Are we affected by all those wars going on around us?
Are we really unaffected by all those killings?
Do we care?
Are we not in the war zone ?

Something to think about....ain't it ?

H1B holders and Recession

http://www.siliconindia.com/shownews/H1B_visa_holders_did_not_cause_US_job_losses-nid-54469.html

Above given is a link to an article in siliconindia news bureau. It basically explains how H1B visas are not the reason for the employment crisis that US of A is going through right now. There are a pretty good number of angry remarks at the end of the article, some saying that H1B visa holders actually are responsible for unemployment in USA while others defending the blame.

Playing the blame game is so much more easier than just accepting the fact. You can always blame someone else for what is happening to you.

Though you cannot deny the fact that a lot of jobs in USA have been taken by so called immigrants and non-citizens. And a part of the unemployment is a result of outside people in this country. But hating them or blaming them for the situation in this country will not help. It would be just the same, if various countries around the world started blaming USA for the economic fluctuations they are facing right now.

Recession is a complex economic phenomenon which is triggered by a number of reasons. Though H1Bs and foreign citizens might be one of those reasons, but their contribution might be very very small.

Still you cannot blame Americans for being angry. At the same time people cannot help coming to America seeking a new life and work. It is in the end human nature. To hate and to be hated.

Michelle Obama inspires women around the globe??

I was just skimming the news today and I came across this article.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/04/28/first.lady/index.html?eref=rss_topstories

The article goes about how 'the first lady', Michelle Obama, influences women around the world. That is how a black woman elevated to such a position shines like a beacon of light over women around the world. In short that's the conclusion of the article anyway.

It does mention something about India.
"Heather Ferreira works in the slums of Mumbai, India, where she has watched thousands of women live under a "curse." They're considered ugly if their skin and hair are too dark. They are "cursed" if they only have daughters. But lately, Indian women are getting a different message from a woman thousands of miles away."

For one thing; doesn't anyone see anything in India but "slums". I mean whenever you see something about India most of the time its about the slums. What is it with slums and India. They don't even rhyme( I know bad joke).

Then I could not help but wonder, do the women living in those slums even know what a first lady means. If they are the women in slums, then they care less about who became the president of USA let alone care about who (rather what) is the first lady. I am sure there might have been much more educated women in India and everyplace else where women would have actually understood the significance of Barack Obama being the first black president and Michelle Obama being the first black first lady.

But i dont think it would make such a big influence in women around the world, atleast not in developing countries like India. There are much more problems in India and coutires like it which make life difficult for women, rather than colour discrimination. So I guess to motivate women in such coutries we would need more than just the first lady.
